In Spring 2019, the Livingston Parish Library introduced its mobile library, dubbed "The Discovery Mobile." Around the parish, it has affectionately become known as "The Sixth Library Branch."
The Discovery Mobile serves as a mobile branch of the Livingston Parish Library system and offers many services and resources found in our traditional branches, such as books, audiobooks, movies and DVDs, and Wi-Fi. Patrons can order or reserve items through the mobile library, and community members can sign up for library cards or renew existing ones.
Operated by the LPL’s Outreach Department, the Discovery Mobile routinely visits daycares, schools, low-income housing facilities, large apartment complexes, and nursing homes throughout the community. The mobile library is also featured in numerous community events, such as Fall Fest, Spring Fest, the Livingston Parish Fair, literacy nights, STEM days, and more.
The Discovery Mobile averages around 40 trips a month and more than 10,000 checkouts per year.
You can request to have the Discovery Mobile at your next event.
